Tianjin Astrophysics Center of the university was officially established in March 2007. But the astronomy program at Tianjin Normal University has been developed for more than 30 years, offering the only Astronomy program among ~60 higher-education institutions in Tianjin.
The center is actively involved in both observational and theoretical astronomical researches, including Galaxy Formation and Evolution, Active Galactic Nuclei, Cosmology, and Antarctic Astronomy. We have long-term close cooperation with the National Astronomical Observatories of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (NAOC), the Purple Mountain Observatory, and some domestic universities, and participated in projects including BATC, Antarctic AST3, and a number of key projects supported by national grants. For their works in astronomy, our members were awarded several times, including a first prize of Tianjin Natural Science Award.
The center maintains a challenging graduate program. Many students have benefited from the program and been awarded degrees, including both Master's degrees and Ph.D. degrees (jointly with NAOC). Most of the graduates are now leading or active astronomers in China. The center is also contributing to the undergraduate education in physics and astronomy. As the president or members of the council of Tianjin Astronomy Society, our faculties play import roles in the popularization of astronomical knowledges in Tianjin. |
